Kidigi Deluxe Desktop Cradle for HTC Desire Review!

Before starting the review, I would like to say a huge thank you to Mobile Fun for sending out this product for me to review. They sell a lot of great phone accesories so please check them out. The product I reviewed was a Deluxe HTC Desktop Charging Cradle made by Kidigi and sold by Mobile Fun.

What’s In The Box

Front of the box: Kidigi – HTC Desire Deluxe Desktop Cradle

In the box you get a USB cable for power and another USB cable for data transfer, each one has a small little label on the wire to indicate which is which. It’s convenient that you can not only charge the device but also transfer data from it to PC, so this is a huge plus point. You also  get the main power plug, it’s a 3 pin adapter since Mobile Fun are based in the UK, the plug has a LED that glows red when its on. Finally, you get a short little user guide, basically showing you how to mount the Desire and the spare battery into the cradle.

What’s Good About This Cradle

I really like the LED indicator on the front of the cradle which glows red when the spare battery is charging and glows blue when the spare battery has finished charging. As mentioned previously, this cradle has the added functionality of data transfer between the device and the pc while the device is charging. This cradle has a rather unique function of being able to charge the spare battery and this just makes it even more convenient as a charging cradle. The HTC Desire is known to have poor battery life, and this cradle is very small, stylish and portable, so you could just carry this and a spare battery as well as your device in a backpack and you’re all set for whenever the inevitable “Battery Low” message strikes. Finally, you can also use this cradle as a stand to hold the HTC Desire in place, also useful if you want to do app review videos.

What’s Not So Good About This Cradle

The main gripe I have with this product and it’s not such a serious one is the length of the cable. This might be different for you depending on how far your wall socket is from the table you would place this cradle on, but for me I had to use an extension cable and it would have been nicer if Kidigi had included a slightly longer cable. The spare battery mechanism is very flimsy, check the video at the bottom for more explanation on this but basically it sometimes locks at one side so you have to force it and there is a worry it could break. The top of the cradle has a gloss black finish and this makes it a fingerprint magnet, again this is not really a serious issue, but if you want it to look nice on your desk you might want to give it a few wipes before hand. Kidigi could have remedied this easily by using the same finish as the bottom of the cradle which is a matte finish, smooth to hold but not too slippery it would fall out of the hand.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, despite the negative points raised above, the HTC Desire Deluxe Desktop Cradle by Kidigi is a great product and for £19.99 you really can’t go wrong. It looks good on the desk, fingerprints aren’t too noticeable and with the added functions of charging a spare battery as well as data transfer, it makes it a phenomenal product! There are some areas in which Kidigi can improve for future cradles but overall I would happily recommend this cradle to anyone with a HTC Desire.
