Dexim Visible Green Cable For Micro USB Devices Review!

Before starting the review, I would like to say a huge thank you to Mobile Fun for sending out this product for me to review. They sell a lot of great mobile phone cables so please check them out. The product I reviewed was a Dexim Visible Green Cable For Micro USB Devices sold by Mobile Fun.

What’s Good About This Cable

Some of you might be wondering why am I reviewing a cable, I mean all it’s for is data transfer and charging devices right? Yes, you are correct but for you see this cable is quite special in that it not only looks cool while charging but it saves elecricity. Tell me more, I hear you cry, well let’s get on with it shall we? The Visible Green Cable by Dexim is compatible with any micro USB device and it uses Electroluminescent Light (EL) Technology which lowers power consumption and saves energy.

It does this by automatically shutting off the current when the device is fully charged, so for example if you were to leave your device on charge and then go to sleep, if it reached 100% fully after an hour, the rest of the time you slept, you wouldn’t have wasted any electricity unlike with other cables, definitely a great feature to have.

In regards to “looking cool” while charging,  that’s where the “Visible” part of the name comes in, you can literally watch the current flow through this cable. This flow is affected by the charge level, by which I mean the current flows faster at low to medium charge levels then slows down as it approaches 100% full charge, and you can notice this just by looking at the flow of current which is a nice, subtle touch. You know your device is fully charged when the current stops flowing, so you don’t need to check your device’s battery level manually, again a convenient feature. If you turn the lights off, it looks pretty damn awesome as shown in the video below:

In regards to charge times, Dexim claim that using this cable will be faster than your traditional cable, because in their words it’s a more efficient charge. Well I noticed that charging my HTC Desire for example from 0% using the official cable took about 3 hours but using this Dexim cable took about 15 minutes less. Thus we can conclude that charging your device using the Dexim cable will be faster, if even just slightly.

Dexim CableTie (Cable For Micro USB Devices)

The cable comes with a nice Dexim branded velcro cable tie, allowing you to condense the cable size for travelling and such. The cable length is a bit short, however, and that brings us to what’s not so good about this cable.

What’s Not So Good About This Cable

The cable length is only 80 cm, which is quite short, especially for those of you that don’t have a USB Wall charger, you will connect this to your computer, and if it’s a USB port on the back that you connect the cable to you might have some issue there.

Fat USB Connector (Dexim Visible Green Cable For Micro USB Devices)

Another thing is the bit near the actual USB connector is quite fat as you can see from the picture, so for laptops and such where the USB ports are quite near to each other, you might have an issue connecting another device if this cable is in already.

Final Thoughts

I am very happy happy with this cable, as Dexim describe it, it truly is an “efficient and stylish” way to charge and sync your devices. For some of you £17.95 might be a bit pricey to spend on a cable but considering it can save you money on your electricity bill in the long run, it’s definitely worth it, not to mention it’s awesome to see the current actually flowing through the cable. The only slight negatives were the length of the cable and the fat usb connector. Ultimately, apart from those two slight issues mentioned above, I would highly recommend this product, it adds a bit of style and efficiency to the traditional charging method and is a truly unique concept.
