Official Samsung Galaxy S III Black Flip Case Review

Before starting the review, I would like to say a huge thank you to Mobile Fun for sending out this product for me to review. They sell a lot of great phone covers so please check them out. The product I will review in this article is  an Official Samsung Galaxy S3 Flip Case -Black sold by Mobile Fun.

What’s Good About This Case

For starters this is an official Samsung accessory, designed specifically for the Galaxy S III and as such the case is made out of a high quality synthetic, almost leather style material which feels very smooth in the hand. There is a shiny bit on the front of the case adding a bit of style. There are precise cutouts for the headphone jack, microphone, flash, camera and the speaker, while the sides are left completely exposed to the elements. There is a nice soft internal material, which feels like microfibre which protects the screen against scratches when the phone is in the case. Taking the phone out of the case is a very simple process as shown in the video at the bottom of the article and it’s just as easy to put the phone back in the case which is nice. The case also comes in White and Blue allowing you to colour co-ordinate the case to the phone colour you have, again a nice addition.

Once the phone is in the case, the reinforced plastic bumpers ensure that your phone is held securely. You can fold the case back for charging or when you want to make calls, or you can let it hang down your face, it’s up to you, but it’s nice to have a compact way to hold the case when making calls because not all cases fold back in this way. The case doesn’t add much bulk or weight to the phone unlike other cases. The fastener works well in keeping your phone fully protected, well the front and back anyway and this is adjustable in terms of tightness, again a video demonstration of the fastener is in the video below.

What’s Not So Good About This Case

While the case does a great job of protecting the front and back, the sides are left completely exposed. This is worrying in case you drop the case at an angle, thus scratching or damaging the sides of the phone. Also the shiny bit on the front is also prone to scratches, which would eventually take away some of the style. As shown in the video, the case doesn’t seem to be too durable, in terms of stitching anyway, this is a common problem with woven material style cases, but it’s something to bare in mind. Apart from the thread, the case will survive against light drops or keys in the pocket etc. The final negative point about this case is the price, £19.99 is very dear for just a smartphone accessory, but it is an official Samsung one and first party accessories are always premium in price.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, the Official Samsung Galaxy S III Black Flip Case from Samsung is a great case. Despite the rather expensive price, the fact that the sides are exposed and that it might not be fully durable, it does majority of what you would expect in a case, protecting the front and back as well as giving you access to full functionality of the phone while in the case, I like that you can fold this case back and since it doesn’t add very much builk or weight, it compliments the Galaxy S III very well.
