The Inateck hard drive enclosure allows you to connect a 2.5 / 3.5 inch SATA hard drive to your computer much more easily. The docking station has been designed so that you can easily dock your hard drive into the product and then access the files off disk. The docking station allows you to connect your hard drives to both PC’s, Macs and other devices that have a USB connection. I used the docking station to connect a 3.5 inch 500 GB SATA hard drive to my network using a NAS. This allowed me to share the 500GB hard drive across my network so that I could read and write to the hard drive from all over my network. The docking station allows you to connect a 2.5 or 3.5 inch hard drive to a USB device. The actual enclosure uses USB 3.0 but is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and therefore, you should have no problem using it with all devices.
The Inateck docking station is manufactured out of a good quality plastic and has a matte black finish to it. The bottom of the device has rubber feet to help stop the enclosure from moving around when the hard drive it turned on. The front of the device has a blue LED which flashes when the hard drive is being accessed. On the back of the device, there is an power button, a 12V power input and a USB socket. The power and USB 3.0 cables are included in the box and these also have a very good built quality. The USB cable is quite thick however, this is probably due to the shielding inside the cable to achieve the higher speeds. The quality of the packaging is also very high and the product is fully secured. Overall, the Inateck hard drive enclosure has a very stylish design and a very high build quality to it. The device bears the aesthetic qualities of a much pricier. higher end product.
The Inateck docking station is extremely quick due to it’s use of USB 3.0. To test the device against different hard drives, I connected the docking station using the provided USB 3 cable and using a spare 500GB SATA 2 hard drive. Since this is a 5400 RPM hard disk, the speeds will be slightly slower compared to a faster hard drive and significantly slowed compared to a solid state disk. Below is a table showing the different read / write speeds that I got using this hard drive.
I also had a spare 400 GB 2.5 inch SATA hard drive. I wanted to test if this hard disk was any faster. Similarly to before, I used Black Magic Speed Test on Mac to test the read and write speeds on the hard drive. As you can see below is another table showing the speeds that I received from this hard drive.
As you can see, the speeds which I received were not too bad but were certainly not the best, The primary reason for the low speeds was my use of older 5400 RPM hard drives. If I used a solid state disk, the read and write speeds would have been much higher compared to the speeds that I received when using the hard disk drives. Non-the-less, the average read and write speeds were quite good compared to other docking stations and the USB 3.0 definitely helped make the transferring of files much quicker.
Below I will be summarising my overall opinions on the Inateck hard drive enclosure.
- Great Build Quality
- Very fast read speeds
- Ability to dock both 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch hard drives
- USB 3.0
- Slightly Expensive
- Doesn’t have thunderbolt for Apple Devices
- May be slow when using older hard drives

The fact that it has the capability to dock both 2.5 and 3.5 inch hard drives is a must have and the quick speeds from USB 3.0 are amazing. Overall, I would recommend this product a 9/10.
